How does it work?

arrow down

Through Access Wellness, people can receive a single session of supportive counselling to help improve their mental health. The service provides a safe space for adults, couples and families to get help with some of life's challenges.

Sessions can be held over the phone, online with video, or in-person. People can speak with a qualified professional and learn strategies to help confidently address challenges they are facing. Counsellors can also provide information about other services that can help, including the Nova Scotia Central Intake Service for additional assessment and treatment matching.

What languages are available?

Support is available in English and French.

What is single-session counselling?

arrow down

It's as simple as it sounds - one session with a counsellor that can help you identify and achieve a goal, solve a problem, and provide you with emotional support.

What if I need additional help beyond what Access Wellness provides?

Every call, chat message and counselling session starts with a brief assessment.

If you need more specialized mental health or addictions care, the counsellor may direct you to connect with the Nova Scotia Central Intake Service for additional assessment and treatment matching.

If you complete your session and you feel you need additional support, then your counsellor can direct you to additional community resources.

Access Wellness is not a crisis service. If you need immediate crisis support, please call call the Provincial Mental Health and Addictions Crisis Line at 1.888.429.8167.

Will my participation in Access Wellness be confidential?

Yes. Your participation in Access Wellness is confidential. The counsellor may be required to notify appropriate authorities if they believe that someone is at risk of harming themself or others (such as risk of harm to a child, domestic violence, etc...).
